The Sound of a Scent
The Perfumer is a film about something usually invisible — smell, and the people whose lives are organised around it. We tuned the score to a single sustaining note and pulled every other element into harmonic relation with it. The whole film hangs in the air.
Score
Written for two modular systems running in parallel, recorded live in long takes. Mio insisted on no overdubs, no edits — what you hear is the room. A vocal motif appears three times across the film, sung by the lead actor, Tova Reinholdt.
Mix & Master
Mixed in our 5.1 room over six weeks. Mastered for cinema, Arte broadcast, and the festival circuit. The film won the Sound Award at Visions du Réel 2025.
